Let Freedom Ring!


 "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.  We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream.  It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free."

We had a great time celebrating the 4th of July ~ the birth of our nation ~ the great freedom with which God has blessed our land.  So often we take for granted the freedoms that we have, thereby giving up little by little the freedoms for which our forefathers fought and died.

 Because the Battle of Kings Mountain was a great victory in the Revolutionary War, an event is never complete without a re-enactment.



 We got there at 7 to help stake out an area big enough for all our friends from church. : )


 9:00 came with a sigh of relief.  Those that were there understand what is meant by that. ; )
Just a tiny hint. . . Allison had to stuff Bella's ears with cotton before she finally went to sleep. : )

 It was encouraging to hear our city officials and others proclaim that we are a nation under God, that He is our Creator, and He is our Sustainer.

 There were presentations, patriotic songs, the Pledge and National Anthem, speeches, and acknowledgements.  Then came the re-enactment.  We love this part because it so vividly reminds us of all our forefathers gave to obtain our freedom.  It reminds us of God's protection and blessing that He has given our nation ~ One Nation Under God.
As the Over-Mountain Men celebrated the victory by raising the flag, the fireworks display began, nicely setting off that beautiful Banner proclaiming our freedom and God's blessing.
 
While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,

Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.
God bless America, Land that I love.

Stand beside her, and guide her

Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam

God bless America, My home sweet home!

 It was absolutely magnificent!  They certainly didn't skimp on the fireworks.

As soon as the last one went off, a mass exodus ensued. : )  We stayed a few minutes chatting with friends, then by the time we got to our van, it wasn't as crowded and we got out fairly quickly.

I know this verse is used quite often, but it is still as true today as when it was written:

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
 II Chronicles 7:14
